Making the New Stevie Top

Making the New Stevie Top

Stevie Pattern by Tilly & The Buttons at The Fabric Fox

As soon as I saw Tilly and the Buttons' new pattern Stevie I knew I had to make one! It is a really simple pattern which is ideal for beginners but it also has some lovely details to it.

The pattern recommends using lightweight woven fabrics so our range of cottons are ideal. I chose to use one of our Cotton+Steel fabrics from the Flutter collection as I wanted to make a top that was colourful and bold. Unfortunately, the fabric I chose has now sold out but we do have it in another lovely colour way.

The pattern offers a choice of adding a tie-close at the back or a loop with a button. I opted to go for the tie-close as I thought this would make a nice feature at the back. I’m not very good at tying bows that stay straight though so I just tied a small knot and this looked just as nice with the long ties hanging down.

Next time I’m going to make the top slightly longer as it came up a bit short for me. I didn’t measure my length before cutting the pattern and just went with the length they had it as but it did say where to shorten or lengthen so this is something I know I should pay more attention to in the future.

I wore the top to an event in London and it was a really hot day but this top was lovely and cool to wear, as it is quite a loose-fitting top it wasn’t too clingy and the cotton was nice and breathable.
