Meeting Sew Jo Baker

Meeting Sew Jo Baker

The Fabric Fox on 10th Nov 2017

Last week we met up with the lovely Jo Baker, who has recently taken the leap to start a brand new career teaching people to sew. Jo hosts her own sewing classes from her beautiful home in the heart of Chelmsford, Essex, where we had the opportunity to see her sewing studio and to discuss future collaborative projects over a scrumptious slice of cake.

Jo has been sewing since she was a child. It's been her life-long passion so she has a wealth of experience, and it's very exciting to see Jo making the most of her hobby - by passing her skills onto others. Most people shy away from the finicky parts of dressmaking but Jo embraces every single obstacle with enthusiasm, she loves a challenge! It's all part of the creative process and her infectious love for sewing will definitely rub off on you.

Jo teaches her classes from her home in Chelmsford, 4 people at a time. This makes her classes more personal as they're in a cosy, inviting space where she can give each person the tuition and encouragement they deserve. Jo doesn't just teach adults either - during the school holidays children can attend her Sew With Jo classes, these are great for children who love crafts or want to learn how to make something new.

In December I will be attending one of Jo’s classes to learn how to make myself a kimono style dressing gown.

I'm really looking forward to it and I already have a few fabrics in mind that I want to use but as you know, picking one is the hardest part! Expect a follow-up blog on how I got on making my dressing gown in a few weeks.

Find out more about Jo over on Instagram and Facebook where you can see how talented and creative she is. If you're thinking of taking a sewing class, or know someone who wants to learn to sew, visit the Sew Jo Baker website and find the perfect sewing class.
