Girl's Summer Dress by Atia

The Fabric Fox Creatives is our way of collaborating and sharing the work of talented, crafty writers. Every few weeks we will share a guest blog from someone who has made something using our range of fabrics. Atia from The Bright Blooms has used fabric from Cotton + Steel's new Flutter collection to make her daughter the perfect dress for summer outings. Here's how she got on...
I wanted to make my daughter a pretty summer dress and I knew she would love the Butterflies print from the new Melody Miller Flutter collection. I chose the Kaleidoscope print from the same collection to go with the peach butterfly print. Both prints have a beautiful selvedge design which could be used as a design feature in a project.
I used the Sullivan Dress pattern by Sew Much Ado as it has interesting details such as the scallops on the bodice and curved short sleeves. The keyhole opening at the back neckline was also a new technique to me. I used the small scale pattern for the bodice and lined it with a matching cotton voile from my stash.
The bodice is a size 5 and I used the size 6 length measurements for the skirt as my daughter is tall for her age (she just turned 5). I cut the skirt pieces using the measurements provided so I didn’t need many pattern pieces.
The finished dress is pretty without being too pink and girly! It is just right for a summer day trip or birthday party, and my daughter has already worn it with tights and a cardigan on cold days too.
