This year my New Year's resolution is to do more sewing and make myself more clothes. I already had a few patterns in mind but when I saw on Instagram about #makenine2018 I thought this was a great opportunity to set myself some sewing goals.

2018 Make Nine is a relaxed photo challenge hosted by Home Row Fibre Co. Rochelle set this up as a way of setting yourself some sewing goals over the next year. The idea is you choose 9 projects you want to make, you can choose whatever you want and there is no pressure to make things but it helps to give you a bit of focus for the year ahead and set yourself some goals. I am a sucker for a to-do list so this sounded like a great plan to give me a bit of motivation!

As I want to make more clothes I have picked out 9 dressmaking patterns that I would like to make. I have included a combination of patterns I already own and haven't yet made, and ones I want to buy in the future.

I created my list by using The Fold Line's pattern database, I found this a really useful tool as they have thousands of patterns available to look through and lots of filters to really tailor your search to what you are looking for.

I started off just looking at beginners patterns but I ended up adding some more intermediate patterns that I might attempt later on in the year!

Here is a little bit about each of the patterns I have chosen:

1.) Dominique Skirt- Tilly and the Buttons

This is a pattern we have recently started stocking and it went straight on my list. It's a beginners pattern so great to start me off and I love a floaty skirt so looking forward to making this.

2.) Bettine Dress- Tilly and the Buttons

This is also a beginners pattern and I haven't made myself a dress yet so this seemed like a good pattern to start with. I'm also on the look out for the ultimate flattering dress pattern for my body shape and I've not worn this style of dress before so I'm interested to see how it will look.

3.) The Sunday Set- Cotton+Chalk

I got this pattern free with Simply Sewing Magazine last year and instantly fell in love! I love how it has the dungaree top with a more feminine flared skirt at the bottom. I'm really looking forward to trying this pattern as I can see myself making a few of these!

4.) Luna Pants- Made by Rae

I thought I would mix things up a little by including some trousers. I don't often wear trousers other than jeans so these would be a little out of my comfort zone but I thought they could look really striking in a fun print.

5.) McCalls- Misses' Dresses 7159

I came across this pattern on The Fold Line, it looks like a really simple design and I liked the tie that pulls the dress in around the middle.

6.) McCalls- Dress 6696

I bought this pattern ages ago after being inspired by one on the Dear Stella blog, made using a fabric from the Shadowbox collection. At the time we had the fabric in stock so I decided I would keep some back, to make myself the same dress!

7.) Betty Dress- Sew Over It

I bought this pattern a few years ago at The Handmade Fair and my mum made it up for me and the dress is lovely to wear with the full circle skirt and a really flattering shape so I'm really keen to make it myself.

8.) Linden Sweatshirt- Grainline Studio

We have recently started stocking jersey knit fabrics and I would love to have a go at sewing with them. I have seen a lot of people making the Linden sweatshirt lately and it looks like a really comfy top to wear so I think it will be great to try.

9.) Washi Dress- Made By Rae

Like the Betty Dress, I bought this pattern and got my mum to make it for me and I now own two Washi dresses, it is a really comfy dress to wear and not too difficult to make so I would love to have a go at making one for myself.

So there is my 2018 Make Nine, hopefully I will get most of them made by the end of the year! I will keep you up to date as I go and share with you how I get on making each project.
