INDAH BATIKS BY ME + YOU
One of our newest collections is Indah Batiks by Me + You of Hoffman Fabrics. 'Indah' means 'Beautiful' in Balinese. The Indah Batiks that we sell are all in black and white, and just as the name implies they are some of the most beautiful monochrome fabrics we have come across.
HOW INDAH BATIKS ARE MADE
Being made entirely by hand in Bali, the Indah Batiks collection has a very interesting story. First of all, the high-quality cotton fabric is dyed in colour-rich formulas. Then, the designs are hand printed onto the fabric in hot wax before being melted off in hot water - it is the wax that prevents the dye from colouring the fabric, leaving behind the desired print. The Bali factory recycles the melted wax to be used in the next round of printing.
The next stage is to dry the fabric out in the Balinese sunshine. This process intensifies the colour from the colour-rich formulas, and because the sun does all the hard work no carbon fuels are required. The whole process of making the Indah Batiks collection is eco-friendly. While the fabric is drying the dye water is purified, which returns the water to its natural pH level so that it can be safely reused in the environment.
