Here's your chance to get to know Atia a little better - Here's a brief Q&A we did with her.

My name is Atia, I’m from London and I work part time as a doctor.

When did you start sewing?

I started sewing as a junior doctor after buying a second hand Bernina on eBay. It was a good way to relax on my days off. I started off making bags and simple quilts and then started making clothes for myself and my children.

Why do you love to sew?

I love choosing beautiful fabrics and deciding what to make with them! It’s really satisfying to make something unique which I can’t find in the shops.

What do you love to sew most?

Lately I am really enjoying making casual clothes for myself and my children. It’s nice to see clothes I’ve made being worn regularly.

What, or who, inspires you?

I’m really inspired by sewists on Instagram, I enjoy seeing what everyone is making and seeing the latest trends in patterns and fabrics. Sewing challenges on social media are also a great motivator.

What are your go-to colours?

I love saturated bright colours, especially pink, teal and yellow. I wear a lot of grey and navy too.

Any advice/tips?

Start with a simple project and gradually build your skills over time. No one can do everything straight away so don’t give up if you find it difficult!

Recommendations (books, sewing supplies, craft fairs, etc.)

I enjoy going to be Knitting and Stitching shows once or twice a year. It’s useful to see fabrics and patterns in real life, as well as pick up supplies.

What do you like to do when you’re not sewing?

I like to knit and watch Grey’s Anatomy in the evening when I’m not sewing. I also like to grow flowers and vegetable in my garden.

Who is your favourite Disney character?

Merida has got a great personality!

If you had a pet fox what would you name them and why?

Hmm it’s a tough one as I’ve never really had a pet! Firefly would be a nice name.
