MY LATEST TRUE BIAS OGDEN CAMI

Ogden Cami Month 2022

The Ogden Cami is my favourite garment to make and this is the third time I have made one! It's a simple cami top that is quick and easy to make, and it's the perfect thing to sew using our fabrics. As our fabrics are 100% cotton, it makes the Ogden Cami so comfortable to wear in the summer - especially when it's boiling hot - and Ruby Star Society fabric is a dream to work with so it was no competition what fabric I was going to use.

The Fabric

I decided to use Parlor Watercress from the Camellia collection from Ruby Star Society. Camellia is a Melody Miller collection inspired by afternoon tea, and has a beautiful range of pink, green and caramel tones. The collection features cute tea cups and spoons but also a medium-scale floral print in three different colours.

The Process

To save on fabric waste I managed to cut my facing pieces on their side on the cross grain next to my main pieces. This may not work for every size but I just managed to squeeze mine on so it might be worth checking if you can do the same before you start cutting. As the facing is on the inside and isn't seen when you are wearing the top it isn't really very noticable, especially as I'm using quite a busy print. You probably wouldn't even be able to tell if I hadn't have told you!

I still have a few scraps of fabric left over which I'm going to use up by making a matching scrunchie, which I can't wait to wear with my new top.

The Label

The Ogden Cami looks virtually the same on the front and back and I'm sure I've worn mine backwards at some point! I thought this time it was a good opportunity to use one of my Kylie and the Machine labels to remind me which way round to wear it. I used a 'This is the Back' label, we are unfortunately sold out of this design but we do have 'This is the Back' label in another shape as well lots of other fun designs available.

The Finished Result

Here is my finished Ogden Cami, I love the colours of this fabric and can't wait to wear it!
