Meet The Creative: Q&A With Anna from Lets Get Sewing

The Fabric Fox on 22nd Feb 2018

We sent Anna some fabric from the Dreamer collection by Windham Fabrics so she could make a pair of Marigold trousers. You can read all about it in this week's Fabric Fox Creatives feature.

Here's your chance to get to know Anna a little better - Here's a brief Q&A we did with her.

Hello! I’m Anna, a 15 year old seamstress with a love of making my own clothes.

When did you start sewing?

I started sewing when I was 11, after receiving a sewing machine for my birthday. My sewing started off as simple (and wonky!) patchwork, but after making my first dress when I was 13 I have been sewing my own clothes.

Why do you love to sew?

I love to sew for so many different reasons… There is such a great sense of accomplishment after making something and walking down the street wearing a garment you have made is such a great feeling. (Two of the very many reasons!)

What do you love to sew most?

Dressmaking is definitely my favourite part of sewing, but as for the type of garment I don’t really have a preference so long as I have something on the go! I enjoy both simple projects that only take a couple of hours and more complicated ones which test and improve my skills and that I can really immerse myself into.

What, or who, inspires you?

Everything! Be it the colour combination in a room, the style of clothing in a shop or the type of fabric someone is wearing, there is always a way to find inspiration by looking around you.

What are your go-to colours?

My wardrobe is definitely heavily blue based, although I like to sew with brighter fabrics in the summer. I usually tend to veer towards the blues in a fabric shop though!

Any advice/tips?

Give it a go; nobody learns how to make a ball gown overnight, but if you just try it you’ll be surprised at how much you can do!

Recommendations (books, sewing supplies, craft fairs, etc.)

Sewing pattern wise, I would recommend Tilly and the Buttons - they do lovely patterns for both beginners and more advanced sewers. I would also recommend the Suzy magazine, it’s such a lovely crafty read. Have a read of some sewing blogs too, there are so many inspiring ones out there.

What do you like to do when you’re not sewing?

Dressmaking is definitely my main hobby, but I like lots of other crafty things too such as baking, and I have recently started knitting. I also love reading.

Who is your favourite Disney character?

I’m afraid I’m not really a Disney fan and so am struggling to answer this one!

If you had a pet fox what would you name them and why?

Again, a surprisingly difficult question to answer! I would probably name it Buttons, or some other sewing related name.

We can't believe Anna's only 15! She's so talented. See what else she's made on her blog Lets Get Sewing.
